Eldri (84) uses the stair climber after suffering a fractured neck of femur

Contents

Eldri suffered a fractured neck of femur after she fell - so it was good that the TOPRO Step stair climber was already installed in her home. Originally, it was her husband Olav who was dependent on the TOPRO Step stair climber. After his rehabilitation and regular training, Olav was finally able to walk again with the help of crutches, but still needed help climbing stairs. For him, the stair climber was a great relief in everyday life, as he suddenly felt freer and more independent again.

Eldri has to go upstairs to knit

Eldri (84) from near Oslo in Norway has always loved knitting and often sits with her knitting in the living room, which is on the top floor of the house. But when she fell and broke her femoral neck, it became extremely difficult for her to climb the stairs.

"It was extremely helpful that we had already installed the TOPRO Step stair climber at home, as I didn't have to sit downstairs in the dark during the entire recovery phase. It can get dark very early here in Norway, especially in winter, and now I can get upstairs by myself in the daylight instead, where I can see my knitting better when I'm knitting."

Eldri and her husband received the aid for the stairs so that they could stay in their own home for longer

It was originally Olav, Eldri's husband, who had problems climbing stairs. He was in hospital and had to learn to walk all over again. After his stay in hospital, an occupational therapist came to their home to get an idea of the living situation and to see how Eldri and Olav's home could be adapted to Olav's needs. The occupational therapist looked for a range of aids for Eldri and Olav that would enable the couple to continue living at home.

This was particularly important as Eldri and Olav's house is not particularly practical and the stairs to the upper floor are quite steep. This means that both Eldri and her husband Olav can climb the stairs step by step without having to worry about falling again.

"We contacted the occupational therapist in our community to adapt our house so that we could continue to live at home. We also tested stairlifts as part of the home adaptation process, but the TOPRO Step mechanical stairclimber was much better for us, so we opted for it. Because with TOPRO Step we can still walk ourselves and stay active!"

It is important to maintain your own walking function and both Olav and Eldri have benefited enormously from the TOPRO Step stair climber.

The TOPRO Step mechanical stair climber has been phenomenal for us so far. I would never have got back on my feet so quickly without the TOPRO Step stair climber, so I really appreciate it and use it every day - also to keep me moving!
