Information on TOPRO Step stair climbing aid cost coverage

Please inquire with your long-term care insurance about the possibility of cost coverage for a TOPRO Step stair climbing aid for adapting your individual living environment.

Most people would like to grow old in their own home. However, often their own four walls are not designed to be barrier-free, and at the latest with advancing age or with permanently limited mobility, one becomes aware of this. Suddenly one is faced with a mountain – one’s own stairs.

Thousands of times one has walked up and down the stairs, but suddenly this is no longer possible just like that, be it because one is no longer sure when walking or is dependent on a wheelchair.

Who do I have to turn to?

Whether you or your relatives are dependent on an aid such as the TOPRO Step due to age or care needs, it is important to contact your (care) insurance directly.

Therefore, please contact your care insurance case worker to discuss the possibility of cost coverage for a stair climbing aid or possible subsidies for the TOPRO Step. It is best to do this before the installation of the TOPRO Step!

What requirements are necessary for applying for financial support?

There are two requirements to be able to apply for reimbursement of stair climbing aid costs.

The first and most important requirement is that you are a member of a statutory health insurance.
It is often a prerequisite that you are a member of a health insurance fund or equivalent.

It is also common that you or your relative must have an official care degree that proves both the need for care and limited mobility.

Whether and how much your insurance company must or can pay is always individual.

How do I submit an application?

The application for a subsidy is made either informally or formally. You submit the formal application to your care insurance fund using the appropriate forms.

Feel free to inquire personally with your care insurance fund about the necessary documents or find information on the corresponding website. There you may find the forms available for download.

What data is needed for the application?

  • Personal data of the care-dependent applicant.
  • Account details of the applicant in need of care – Please ask your insurance company for this.
  • Alternatively, the contractor’s bank details can be provided if the invoice is to be paid directly by the care fund. In this case, remember the necessary assignment declaration. The advantage here is that the applicant does not have to make an advance payment.
  • Detailed description of the (construction) measure
  • Cost estimate for the TOPRO Step
  • Contractor’s address
  • Information about any previous residential environment improvement measures that have already been subsidized.
