How Tobias (39) climbs stairs despite neuropathy with the help of the TOPRO Step stair climber!
Tobias has been using the TOPRO Step stair climber since summer 2017 to be able to use the very steep stairs in his home safely and independently.
Barbara’s story began about three years ago in 2015 when Barbara had one of her knee prostheses replaced. She contracted a serious infection and has been fighting this multi-resistant germ since then. Barbara has undergone a total of ten leg surgeries in the last three years.
Barbara’s most recent surgery took place in February 2018 – this time Barbara is finally on the road to recovery. The condition of her leg is improving every day, and she can already slowly but surely start training to walk and climb stairs. After not being able to walk at all for three years, Barbara now has to gradually rebuild her leg muscles.
Without the TOPRO Step stair aid, I had to decide in the morning whether I wanted to stay on the ground floor or on the first floor.

For stair training, Barbara uses the TOPRO Step stair aid together with her husband Rudi. She feels completely safe and recommends the TOPRO Step stair aid to anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs.
She tells:
“My husband walks beside me as I hold onto the stair lift and step by step we go up the stairs together. If I can’t make it all the way up, we turn around and go back down. I am certain that maybe in two or three months, I won’t need the wheelchair anymore and can move around more independently. So far, I felt completely trapped here. When my husband went to work, I had to decide in the morning whether to stay upstairs or downstairs.”

Despite the health insurance subsidizing, the Mocker family has decided against the more expensive stairlift. However, there are not only financial reasons behind this decision. Both believe that the stair aid TOPRO Step is better than a stairlift in many ways. It always depends on the condition of the joints, the diagnosis, and the age – they both agree on that. But more movement accelerates the physical and mental recovery process.
Barbara was looking for an alternative to a stairlift and came across the TOPRO Step stair aid during her internet research. After watching a video of the stair aid, she was convinced that this tool was perfect for her. Her husband Rudi was also excited, so they contacted our sales partner and their health insurance at the same time.
Rudi informed the health insurance company about the stair aid and after assessment by the case worker, there was nothing standing in the way of the installation.
The TOPRO Step was covered by the health insurance company and shortly after, the stair aid was installed in Barbara’s home.
Barbara enthusiastically tells about her first trial run.
“The first time trying it out was good. I was positively surprised and also made it all the way to the top. When going down, I have to be careful how I place my foot correctly on the step. It is a good alternative to a stair lift, as it trains muscle building – from the back to the legs, actually everything. And you practice keeping your balance. The safety is also guaranteed with this device and the trust in the TOPRO Step is there.”
In her other knee, Barbara also has a knee prosthesis that will need to be replaced at some point. However, at the moment, Barbara is facing another surgery critically and is focusing on her recovery since the last surgery in February 2018. In this short time, she has already made such great progress that she can walk with the support of walking aids and the TOPRO Step. This was unthinkable for her in recent years.
“It depends on age and mindset. And I don’t feel so old yet that I say ‘Man, I belong to the old guard.’ I used to be always on the go and working. It was a shock for me when I suddenly sat here – I cried for days. My husband had to do everything, I couldn’t do anything, not even stand. I could only watch. I was totally dissatisfied with myself.”

Both Barbara and Rudi are happy to have the TOPRO Step stair aid as support for their stair training at home and can only recommend it. Barbara explains:
“The advantages are that the muscles are built up and then one is no longer dependent on outside help. If you have an electric stair climber or a stair lift, nothing happens anymore. With a device like the TOPRO Step, you can grow old. Also in terms of appearance, it looks good! It doesn’t bother and is practically like a second stair handrail.”
