Christian Rülcker fell on his stairs at home and now uses the TOPRO Step stair walking aid for safe stair climbing.

With the TOPRO Step stair walking aid, Christian has additional support after his fall on the stairs, as he, like many older people, has difficulties with balance.
He tells us that he was to blame for the stair fall himself and his stairs are not at fault. And indeed, the person affected often bears the blame for accidents on the stairs. It is not uncommon for a stair fall to occur due to a lack of safety awareness or rushing up the stairs too quickly.

When one day he loses his balance at the top of the stairs and falls down the stairs, he then spends some time in the hospital. This is followed by several weeks in a rehabilitation center and the fear of falling again in his own home.

Christian was made aware of the stair walking aid TOPRO Step by the physiotherapist provided by the community and found the solution to his problem. A rollator for the stairs that supports the affected person when climbing stairs and catches them in case of a fall.
He tested the TOPRO Step stair walking aid at one of the nearby exhibitions and was immediately interested and impressed.

He immediately saw that the TOPRO Step stair walking aid would be of great benefit to him. The system is so simple and does not require much explanation, so there is no need to speculate on how it works, he explains.

Fortunately, Christian did not sustain too serious injuries in his fall and suffered minimal long-term effects.

He is still able to walk up the stairs independently and without support, but has decided to install the TOPRO Step stair aid at home for safety reasons and with future considerations in mind.

He tells us that he is very very satisfied with the stair walking aid TOPRO Step and that the handling is very easy and practical. A stair lift was not an option for him at all, as the most important thing for him is to continue to be active and to regularly use his body and muscles.

It is not difficult at all to use the stair walking aid TOPRO Step, it is easy and comfortable!

In Germany, falls are one of the most common causes of accidents and more than 600,000 people fall each year. According to the Federal Statistical Office, in 2015 alone, 12,867 people died from a fall, and older people in particular often suffer serious injuries.

According to estimates from the North Rhine Medical Association, approximately 80 percent of people over 80 years old and about 30 percent of those over 65 years old fall in their own homes each year.

The consequences of such a fall are often wide-ranging and frequently serious. They often result in lengthy hospital stays, followed by a transfer to a nursing home.
A large part of falls occur in one’s own home on the stairs – in 2013 there were about 4000 deaths in Germany due to falls on stairs. Physical consequences can include bruises, fractures, hematomas, sprains, and lacerations.

The most common fractures are thigh and hip fractures, which usually require a lengthy and strenuous rehabilitation. However, stair falls not only have physical consequences but also psychological ones. Whether in seniors or people with disabilities – a fall typically results in fear of falling again.

This inevitably leads to increased immobility and consequently to a poorer body balance due to reduced daily activity over a longer period. Due to the avoidance of climbing stairs both in one’s own home and outside, the affected person is often trapped in their own home and largely isolates themselves from their social network – namely family and friends.

Since Christian installed the TOPRO Step stair walking aid at home, he is moving around more safely again and can move freely in his house without worrying about a possible fall.
