How Tobias (39) climbs stairs despite neuropathy with the help of the TOPRO Step stair climber!
Tobias has been using the TOPRO Step stair climber since summer 2017 to be able to use the very steep stairs in his home safely and independently.
Espen, who suffered a stroke on New Year’s Eve 2015 and was completely dependent on care, now uses the mechanical stair climbing aid TOPRO Step daily to be more independent at home. After being dependent on care for a long time, he now climbs the stairs all by himself – with the stair climbing aid TOPRO Step.
Espen, like many other men in their thirties, is the father of two children and lived a completely normal, albeit hectic life.
On New Year’s Eve 2015, something happened that would fundamentally change the lives of Espen, his wife, and their two children. Espen and his wife spent the New Year’s Eve with a couple of friends in a holiday cabin when Espen started feeling and behaving strangely. He had to vomit.
At that moment, his wife wondered if he had possibly suffered a stroke, which turned out to be correct. He had bleeding in the brainstem. At that time, no one knew if he would even survive the night.
So Espen’s life changed from a very active lifestyle of regular cycling, golfing, and playing with the two children (the youngest was only 11 months old) to complete dependency on care. He suddenly could not walk, talk, or eat independently. He was entirely dependent on care and the help of his wife and caregivers.
We celebrated the first birthday of our youngest together with Espen in the hospital. We mainly did it just to have done it. Espen was completely tired and exhausted.
— Espens Wife
His perseverance and motivation not only led to us celebrating the birthday of our youngest, but also to his successful rehabilitation.
His perseverance in celebrating our youngest’s birthday was ultimately worth its weight in gold. Because after much hard work and with a lot of help, including during his stay at the Sunnaas Hospital for Rehabilitation, he has relearned how to climb stairs and can now climb the stairs completely independently. And that requires a lot of willpower!
When Espen moved back home, he had to sleep in the living room. In the summer of 2016, the couple was certain that they had to renovate the house and move the bedroom to the ground floor.
With the TOPRO Step stair climbing aid, I can go all by myself. Before, I had to wait for my caregiver to come. Now I do it on my own! And it is very easy to use.

Stroke patient Kjell Groven uses the TOPRO Step stair climber for daily stair climbing and thus trains his stair climbing skills. (This article is taken from the Norwegian magazine “Foreningen for Slagrammede”, a magazine for stroke patients, the issue was published in June 2018): The entrepreneurs themselves have grandparents who have difficulty climbing stairs. This prompted the three young entrepreneurs in Trondheim to develop a new aid that makes it possible to climb the stairs safely and also helps to maintain walking function and muscle tone.

Eldri suffered a fractured neck of femur after she fell – so it was good that the TOPRO Step stair climber was already installed in her home. Originally, it was her husband Olav who was dependent on the TOPRO Step stair climber. After his rehabilitation and regular training, Olav was finally able to walk again with the help of crutches, but still needed help climbing stairs. For him, the stair climber was a great relief in everyday life, as he suddenly felt freer and more independent again.

Jan Erik regained more independence with the TOPRO Step stair climbing aid. On a fatal day in June 2017, exactly what unfortunately happens too often according to the statistics happened. Jan Erik (60) fell at home and landed in such a way that he suffered a partial fracture in his spinal cord. The first few months after the accident were difficult. Jan Erik experienced what it was like to be healthy and fit and suddenly be paralyzed. But thanks to his TOPRO Step stair climbing aid, he has now regained more independence.

Edmund uses the stair climber after his stroke. He has lived all his life in a typical manor house (Trønderlån) in the Tröndelag region of Norway and the last thing he wants is to have to move. After working with his wife to make the house barrier-free with the help of various aids for stroke patients, such as the TOPRO Step stair climber, he is now able to cope with everyday life within his own four walls.

The TOPRO Step stair climber provides Christian with additional support after his fall down the stairs because, like many older people, he has difficulties with his balance. He tells us that it was his own fault that he fell down the stairs and that the stairs were not his fault. And in fact, the person affected is often to blame for accidents on the stairs. It is not uncommon for a fall to occur due to a lack of safety awareness or climbing stairs too hastily.
