Christian Rülcker fell on his stairs at home and now uses the TOPRO Step stair climber to climb stairs safely

The TOPRO Step stair climber provides Christian with additional support after his fall down the stairs because, like many older people, he has difficulties with his balance.

He tells us that it was his own fault that he fell down the stairs and that the stairs were not his fault. And in fact, the person affected is often to blame for accidents on the stairs. It is not uncommon for a fall to occur due to a lack of safety awareness or climbing stairs too hastily.

When he lost his balance at the top of the stairs one day and fell down them, he spent some time in hospital. This was followed by several weeks in a rehabilitation center and the fear of falling again in his own four walls.

Christian was made aware of the TOPRO Step stair climber by the physiotherapist provided by the local authority and found the solution to his problem. A rollator for the stairs that supports the person concerned when climbing stairs and catches them in the event of a fall.

He tested the TOPRO Step stair climber at one of the nearby exhibitions and was immediately interested and enthusiastic. He immediately saw that the TOPRO Step stair climber was of great benefit to him. The system is so simple and doesn't need much explanation, so you don't have to speculate for long about how it works, he explains.

Fortunately, Christian was not too badly injured in his fall and suffered hardly any consequential damage. He can still walk up the stairs independently and without support, but has decided to install the TOPRO Step stair climber at home for safety reasons and with the future in mind.

He tells us that he is very happy with the TOPRO Step stair climber and that it is very easy and practical to use. A stairlift was completely out of the question for him, as the most important thing for him is to remain active and to use his body and muscles regularly.

It is not difficult at all to use the TOPRO Step stair climber, it is easy and comfortable!

In Germany, falls are one of the most common causes of accidents and more than 600,000 people fall every year. According to the Federal Statistical Office, 12,867 people died as a result of a fall in 2015 alone and older people in particular are often seriously injured.

According to estimates by the German Medical Association North Rhine, around 80 percent of all over-80s and around 30 percent of all over-65s fall in their own homes every year. The consequences of such a fall are often wide-ranging and frequently serious. They involve lengthy stays in hospital, often followed by admission to a nursing home.

The majority of falls occur at home on the stairs - in 2013, there were around 4,000 deaths in Germany due to falls down stairs. Physical consequences can include bruises, fractures, hematomas, sprains and lacerations.

The most common fractures are femur and hip fractures, which usually result in lengthy and strenuous rehabilitation. However, falls down stairs not only have physical consequences, but also psychological ones. Whether for senior citizens or people with disabilities, experience shows that a fall leads to a fear of falling again.

This inevitably leads to increased immobility and consequently to poorer body balance due to reduced everyday activity over a longer period of time. Due to the avoidance of climbing stairs, both inside and outside the home, the person affected is often trapped in their own home and isolates themselves as far as possible from their social network - i.e. family and friends.

Since Christian installed the TOPRO Step stair climber in his home, he is safer on the stairs again and can move freely around his house without having to worry about falling again.
