One of the most important measures for an accessible staircase is the handrail. This must be continuous regardless of the type of stairs and should not be interrupted even at landings. If possible, handrails should also continue horizontally at the beginning and end of the stairs, allowing for a safe entry and exit. The handrail should be securely graspable.
For handrails, there are several things that must be considered.
As you can see in the video below, the TOPRO Step is moved down the stairs by lifting the outer part of the handle slightly. You can then push the stair aid an arm’s length in front of you.
When pressure is applied to the handle, it automatically locks in place and secures you.
When going up the stairs, the TOPRO Step is pushed up along the railing system.
With each step you climb, you usually push the handle an arm’s length in front of you to create enough distance between you and the handle.
